"I always thought that if someone would cast a brunette as Elle in 'Legally Blonde,' I'd love to do it," Crocker said. The role of Elle is one Crocker has wanted to do since she attended Shorter College in Rome, Ga., as a musical theater major. "There's well over 30 large, rolling pieces in the show."Ĭrocker, who works at Everyday Organic restaurant and also assists in marketing at Greenville Little Theatre, enjoyed stints as a professional actress at the Barter Theatre in Virginia and Fort Peck Theatre in Montana. "It's like we're doing 'Les Miz' all over again," he said. ![]() The "Legally Blonde" set is particularly large, McCalla said. "It's been a lot of fun for the whole cast."Īmong the other local actors in the show are David Bean, Celia Blitzer, Sam McCalla, Jenna Troum, Tiffany Morton and Christopher Rose. "We're getting to explore a lot of styles and be challenged by that," Crocker said. Kimberlee Ferreira serves as choreographer. It's also a dance-intensive show, featuring a number of styles ranging from hip hop to Irish step dance. On the surface, it's a very funny, toe-tapping musical but it's really about this young woman realizing that she has more to offer. "The film was very popular and I think they did a masterful job of adapting it for the stage. "The music is really great," McCalla said. Like "Wicked," the upbeat "Legally Blonde" is especially popular with younger people and director Allen McCalla expects the show will draw some new young faces to the theater. The 2009 "Legally Blonde" is unique for Greenville Little Theatre, which is known primarily for championing the classics. The show features a 29-member cast, including two dogs, and a peppy rock-inflected score by Laurence O'Keefe and Nell Benjamin.Ĭrocker was most recently seen at Greenville Little Theatre as a poignant Eponine in "Les Miserables." She also was one of four performers in GLT's "The Marvelous Wonderettes." She's constantly changing and growing and learning more about herself." She learns not to define herself by other people's image of her. You get to watch her figure out who she wants to be. "At first you see this bubbly sorority girl who doesn't have a clue about the world. "She's such an interesting, dynamic person," Crocker, 26, said. She may start out as a flibbertigibbet but as the show progresses, the Elle discovers how her knowledge of the law can help others, and she ends up defending a woman accused of murder. The stage musical, based on the popular 2001 film of the same name, follows the pink-clad sorority girl Elle as she enrolls in Harvard Law School to win back her boyfriend. The show opens Friday at Greenville Little Theatre for 10 performances through Oct.
